MateRisk ("we", "us", or "our") operates the MateRisk platform, including the website and iOS app. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights. For rules governing your conduct on the platform, see our Terms of Use.
1. Information We Collect
- Account data: Email address, display name, username, password hash, and date of birth when you register.
- Profile data: Profile photo, bio, and any other information you choose to add to your profile.
- Location (manual): If you use the location feature, we store your city and state only. Your exact coordinates are never stored. You control whether this is visible to other users via your Settings.
- Location (IP-based): Your IP address is used to approximate your country and city for internal moderation and abuse-prevention purposes only. IP-derived location is not displayed on your profile.
- Assessment responses: Your answers to the MateRisk Index questionnaire, used to calculate your score. These are stored and used to generate your results and, if you choose to share, to enable score comparisons with other users.
- Content: Posts, comments, reactions, and direct messages you create on the platform.
- Usage data: Pages visited, features used, and timestamps of activity.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and operate the MateRisk platform.
- To calculate and display your MateRisk Index score and compatibility with other users.
- To send account-related emails (verification, password reset, support replies).
- To detect and prevent abuse, spam, and unauthorized access.
- To improve the platform based on aggregate usage patterns.
3. Assessment Sharing — What Others Can See
Your assessment results are private by default. You control visibility through your Settings. When you share your assessment — either with a specific user or by making it public — the following data becomes visible to the recipient(s):
- Your category scores (Mate, Employee, Character, and Values if enabled).
- Your question-level answers and how they compare to the other user's answers.
- Your compatibility percentage with that user.
Revoking access removes visibility going forward but cannot retroactively erase what another user has already seen. We do not share your assessment data with any third party.
4. Direct Messages
Direct messages between users are encrypted at rest. They are not used for advertising or analytics. We may access message content only when required to investigate a reported abuse complaint.
5. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We may share information with:
- Service providers: Email delivery and hosting providers under confidentiality agreements.
- Third-party APIs: IP geolocation (ip-api.com) and map search (Nominatim/OpenStreetMap) — only your IP or a location search string is sent; no account data is transmitted.
- Legal requirements: If required by law or to protect the safety of users.
6. Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time from your Settings page. Some data may be retained in backups for up to 90 days after deletion.
7. Security
We use industry-standard practices including HTTPS, password hashing (ASP.NET Core Identity), rate limiting, and encrypted direct messages. No system is 100% secure; we encourage you to use a strong, unique password and enable two-factor authentication in your account settings.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data via your profile or account settings.
- Request deletion of your account and data.
- Object to processing of your data.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@materisk.com.
9. Children
MateRisk is strictly for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us immediately and we will remove it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or an in-app notice. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
